Exciting architecture: many new dwellings are now cramped for storage space, so the pressure is particularly bad in the kitchen, where there is no less requirement to store pots, pans and crockery. However, while the trend to more open-plan living continues, this should not be to the detriment of good interior design there are multitude of possible solutions including the greater use of height and depth. Moreover, compact modular wall cupboards are new presented in real wood, interspersed with shelf units. The dernier cri is “Eiche sägerau” (round-cut oak), which imparts an authentic earthy flair with the feeling of home and security. In addition, matt surfaces create a warmer atmosphere, even though high-gloss remains well up in the popularity stakes. Frame surrounds lend a homely touch to low-level cupboards.

‘Unique’ from Eggersmann is certainly worthy of the name. This kitchen is of cast Schwanstein Glass and unique not just on account of the material used, but also the design elements such as an integral bench. Photo: Eggersmann
